Werlte, August 2005 – With an order volume of 1000 semitrailers, trailer-manufacturer Krone and GE recently received the largest single order in both companies’ histories.  The curtainsided semitrailers type Krone Profi Liner and Krone Mega Liner will be operated by the Denmark based global logistics-group DFDS Transport Group A/S and will be leased through GE’s TIP Trailer Services, one of Europe’s leading trailer rental and leasing companies. All vehicles are suited for ferry and train shipping.

DFDS Transport Group A/S is the largest carrier of Denmark. It operates within the DSV-group with approximately 11,000 employees worldwide in air, ship, train and road transport. GE’s TIP Trailer Services has over  38 years of experience in the trailer rental and leasing business. With a fleet of approximately 70,000vehicles, TIP is one of the largest businesses in this industry worldwide. General Electric (GE) operates in 20 countries in Europe and has more than one hundred agencies to support the trailer business.

For Dr. Bernard Krone, proprietor and chairman of the board of Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone GmbH, this order is a result of the good and longstanding relationship between Krone, DFDS and TIP.  “When customers as DFDS and TIP, who gathered experience with Krone trailers but also with other products over many years, jointly place such a major order with Krone, it indicates that our customers appreciate our way to focus on product quality and proximity to the customer.“ In the past, both DFDS and GE repeatedly placed major orders with Krone.  For Rogier Laan, TIP Trailer Services director of Pan European accounts, this order therefore is a „natural development“ in the longstanding partnership.  Søren Lund, DFDS purchase director, is convinced of the capability of both partners: „Our experiences with Krone trailers and the people behind it were always positive.  And with the cost reductions opportunities, provided by the GE services, we see a good chance to further improve our competitiveness on the European transport market.“

Month-long consultations between GE and DFDS preceded the order. Intensive analyses of the existing trailer fleet costs and tracking down cost reductions opportunities were complemented by consultations about the more efficient use and administering of the fleet. In this process GE used FleetAdvice™, a consultative offering wherein GE provides tactical logistics analysis and strategic planning support. FleetAdvice uses GE's Six Sigma process-improvement methodology.
